HOW TO ECONOMIZE ON RALLY SERVICE

Having a service at a rally is a must, but no one ever said the service must be exclusive. Nobody starts the first time with his own exclusive service team and equipment. People normally team up to split the costs. Those that already have their own service quickly realize that they can easily take on service for additional one, two or even three cars with little extra cost. Those that do not have their own service can in fact instantly get access to it, without having to bear all cost up front. Splitting fixed service costs 2, 3 or 4 way makes it an attractive proposition for everyone.  For a price of one mechanic you get the whole team, a Service Van with all the tools and equipment, place on a mat under the tent. Often enough they can even hauls your rally car to the rally and back to your garage.

A very good deal, indeed.

Such arrangement may be all inclusive or custom tailored  to  provide you only the elements you do not have. It is flexible in scope and can be formatted  for your specific need and pocket.

Nominally, a fully equipped and manned Rally Service Team is a big ticket in the budget. OIn practice, when you put your mind to it, it can be spread over a fairly long time  and should not cause you too much financial pain.

It does take time ( typically between 1- and 3 seasons) to accumulate all the required gear. You can continue this arrangement with decreasing contribution to the joint team, until you are ready to put up your own service team.

You can also get a Rally Service Team commercially, but hiring a Service Team on strictly commercial basis the is the most expensive option, with no guarantee of quality matching the price.

Note: During the rally the cars come into their service zones minutes apart. Between Rally each car is allowed 15 minutes service, after which the car must report to start to the next leg of the rally. It means that to provide adequate arch car must have one ful-time mechanic and one extra mechanic as support/ assistance. Assuming 5 minutes spread between cars, there will be not more than 3 car being serviced at any time time to service. What follows os that to service 4 cars the team must have 5 mechanics.  Each car is assigned one full time mechanic and one hovering mechanic. In case the team is one mechanic short to mee this, the team service boss becomes the step-in 6th mechanic.
